We are very excited to announce our first ever collaboration with Illustrator, Charly Clements! This collection of accessories features EB favourites such as our Mini Jewellery Box and Card Purse as well as a brand-new Zip Purse in a fun Icons print (available in cream and navy).
We asked Charly some questions about her life, inspirations and thought process behind designing this collection. Read on to find out more about Charly!
EB: How did you know you wanted to be an illustrator?
CC: From a young age I was always entering drawing competitions and creating birthday cards for friends and family. I feel incredibly lucky that I’ve always known what I’m passionate about. But saying that, the term illustrator didn’t really exist when I was younger. I remember feeling so frustrated that I had to choose and since then I’ve made it my mission to inspire and empower other creators to not only follow their dreams, but to make a good living from it too.
EB: Did it take you some time to find your aesthetic?
CC: It’s taken me years to develop a sense of confidence when it comes to my branding and aesthetic. My style is always evolving but what I love about social media is how it’s allowed me to document these subtle shifts. Now I’m loving saturated colours and texture, but if you’d have said that to me 2 years ago, I wouldn’t have believed it!
EB: What is your ideal way to wind down after a day of drawing?
CC: I try to stay off social media and my computer after dinner and swap my phone for a nice book instead. Lately I’ve become obsessed with lighting candles and reading in the bath, it’s become my non-negotiable. I don’t know why, but all my best ideas seem to come to me as soon as I start to fall asleep, but luckily, I invested in a notepad that I store permanently under my pillow, just in case the idea is too good not to write down.
EB: What is your thought process before each project?
CC: Before I start any project, I always try to understand exactly what the client is envisioning. It's so important that we're on the same page. Once I have a good idea of what they’re after, that’s when I can start to bring their ideas to life through sketches and colour thumbnails.
EB: What was the inspiration behind your designs for EB?
CC: It was important for me to create a design that reflected all the beauty and elegance from EBs past jewellery collections. As soon as I got to know your brand more, I just knew I wanted to celebrate your favourite pieces through a celestial pattern. I had so much fun exploring different colour palettes for the final designs, and I’m so happy we landed on the cream and navy, they complement each other beautifully!
EB: Which piece from the EB x Charly Clements collab is your favourite and why?
CC: It would have to be the cream jewellery box. I just LOVE how it turned out! I can’t wait to have this collection on display in my bedroom. Thanks for letting me be part of this wonderful project - it was an absolute dream working with you guys!
