What Is An Ear Cuff?

First things first, what actually is an ear cuff? An ear cuff is a piece of jewellery that is worn around the outer edge of your ear. It simply slips over the cartilage and gives a similar look to that of a helix or snug piercing.

Do I Need Pierced Ears To Wear An Ear Cuff?

You do not need to have your ears pierced to wear an ear cuff...that’s the beauty of them. They are versatile, require no commitment and most importantly, there is no pain involved when wearing an ear cuff.

You can change up your look as often as you like, and you won’t need to worry about caring for a piercing. Of course, many people also choose to wear ear cuffs alongside their ear piercings so whatever your look, ear cuffs can work for you.

Ear cuffs can also be a great way to try out cartilage piercings before committing to the needle.

How To Put On Ear Cuffs

Putting an ear cuff on for the first time may be a little tricky, but with practice you’ll be a pro in no time!

  1. The first thing you need to do is adjust the size of your ear cuff. Without doing this you might not be able to get it over your ear. Simply hold the ends and pull apart slightly in order to make the gap bigger.

  2. After you have opened your ear cuff slightly, pull your ear taught and slip the cuff over the thinnest part of the cartilage, on the outside of your ear.

  3. Slide the ear cuff down and rotate towards the inner ear until you have found a position that looks good and feels comfortable.

  4. Finally, press together the two ends of the ear cuff until it is secured. You will know this is the case when you gently pull on the ear cuff without it coming loose from your ear. Make sure not to press the ends together too tightly or it could be uncomfortable.

Which Ear Should I Wear An Ear Cuff On?

The choice is up to you. Whichever ear feels most comfortable or looks best to you. Switch it up or even wear them on both ears at the same time!

How To Remove Ear Cuffs

If you want to give your ears a break, or you are heading to bed, you may want to remove your ear cuff. Find out how to remove your ear cuff without damaging it.

  1. Gently pull apart the ends of your ear cuff until you can easily slide it up and down your ear again.

  2. Once you have done this, slide the ear cuff to the thinnest part of your ear and holding your ear taught, slide it off the ear.

  3. Finally, either press the ends back together or leave them apart for next time you wear it.

Styling Your Ear Cuff

An ear cuff is a great way to get that decorated ear look when combined with other earrings. Alternatively, you might prefer a more understated look and choose to wear just a single cuff.

Whatever your style, there are a variety of ways to get the perfect look for you!

Ear Cuff Types

The type of ear cuff you choose may affect how you wear it. For example, smaller, more dainty ear cuffs might be best worn as part of an understated look whilst statement ear cuffs can add a little edge. Our gold textured ear cuff is simple and modern. Minimalist when worn alone or a statement addition to other ear piercings.

For a more bold look, our Double Ear Cuff with Open Cubic Zirconia creates the look of 2 stacked ear cuffs and even adds a little sparkle!

Size Matters

Size will also play a role in how you wear your ear cuffs. This is more about personal style than anything. Sometimes more is more, so you might want to go for a larger ear cuff but, for an everyday look or something more casual, a smaller cuff might feel more comfortable. If you are wearing more than one ear cuff, you may also want to use a smaller and a larger one to keep the look interesting.

Stacking Your Ear Cuffs

For a truly unique styling, play around with more than one ear cuff or combine with other ear piercings. As we said above, you might want to combine different sized ear cuffs or place them at different points on your ear. Why not try one towards the top of your ear and another placed lower down?

Combining ear cuffs with other ear piercing is also very popular. They look great with studs, hoops and drop earrings. If you want to go all out, try one of our stacking earring sets and add an ear cuff for maximum glamour.
